Activities

Outings:

Residents are encouraged to go out for walks and to the local shops and post office if they so wish and are sufficiently able. If a carer is needed for assistance of any description in this activity, then one can generally be made available.
In summer and at Christmas outings are by a hired coach with disabled access and are suited to client's needs and capabilities. Staffs always accompany the residents on these outings which are often oversubscribed.

Activities with Staff: (On a daily basis)

Chatting with individual residents, going for walks, manicures, playing games, armchair exercises, reading magazines, books, newspapers etc. Helping to choose library books, music and sing-alongs maintaining life long hobbies such as jigsaws, crossword puzzles etc.

Therapeutic Activities;

The home policy on Therapeutic Activities takes into account the residents interests, skills, experiences, personalities and physical and mental condition. The home offers a wide range of activities designed to encourage the residents to keep alert and mobile, and most importantly, take an interest in life.

We have secured the services of Jose Bingham who attends Peregrine House three times per week to lead "Arts and Crafts" activities during which residents have made items such as, greetings cards; table place mats; door signs; calendars; photo frames and have individually decorated such items as, pottery; glass; and jewellery boxes amongst many other items. Many of these items were sold at the summer Garden Fete, held in the grounds of Peregrine House to raise funds for St Catherine's Hospice. This fete raised £1235.00 for the hospice in the summer of 2008 and £1350 in 2009 despite heavy rain.

Residents can play the following games using the equipment that is designed for fading sight.

Cards, Scrabble, Bingo, Draughts, Ball games – feet or hand.

Visits:

We often have entertainment visits by theatre companies, music groups and singers, Evangelical groups and animal lovers/conservationists etc. These occur at least weekly and often more frequently.
