Guidelines

Contact with family and friends

Residents family, relatives and friends are encouraged to visit and maintain contact by letter or telephone when visiting is not possible. In these cases, staff will offer to assist the residents to respond where help is needed and a cordless telephone enables all residents to receive incoming calls if they wish to take the call in their rooms for added privacy.
Visitors will be welcome at all reasonable times and are asked to let the person in charge know of their arrival and departure from the home. For security and Fire safety reasons, visitors must sign the visitor’s book each visit.
External doors are locked as dusk approaches but a bell which sounds throughout the home can be activated at the entrance to 50.Upgang Lane, which will alert staff to waiting visitors.
Residents have the right to refuse to see any visitor and this right will be respected by staff.

Monitoring and Quality

Within the home there are various systems which ensure that monitoring is maintained on all the home’s services and procedures. There is an annual Quality audit and Service users, relatives, doctors, nurses and social workers are all invited to comment, in writing, on an annual basis. Results and action plans are fed back to all participant groups. Comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome at any time either in writing or discussion with senior staff at Peregrine House.

Medication

If a resident wants to be self-medicating and it is safe for them to do so, then all help and advice is given. Otherwise all drugs will be managed by the staff and dispensed and ordered for residents under the instructions of the Doctor. Any resident may see their doctor in private at any time.

Smoking and Alcohol

Peregrine House is a smoke free environment for the safety and comfort of all. Arrangements are made for those who need to smoke and supervision is provided if considered necessary.

Religion (Worship / Attendance at Religious Services)

Residents may attend religious services either within or outside the home as they so desire. If services are outside the home, the residents should, as appropriate, arrange for their own transport and accompaniment with friends or relatives.

Residents have the right to meet privately with clergy of their own denomination at any reasonable time.

Pets

Whilst we acknowledge the fact that many people have pets for company during their lifetime and that they may wish to bring an animal with them when they move, the management has a responsibility to all the residents with regard to Health and Safety. Unfortunately, therefore pets are discouraged. However the home presently has a cat and staff are encouraged to bring their own pets into the home from time to time for the enjoyment of the residents.
